Welcome to the 2023 summer season of Yampa Valley Baseball!
Registration will be open March 6 - April 15.
This age group includes 9-12 year olds.
Player Birthdates: May 1, 2010 – April 30, 2014
After a player evaluation, this group will be divided into a Minors, and Majors Division (explained below).
Season Dates (Weather Permitting):
Mid May - Player Evaluation Day (As soon as the fields dry out)
Practices: Begin the week of May 15th
Opening Day Games: Saturday, May 21 for Majors only
Schedule: Practices can begin May 16, practices/game schedule will run: June 1 – July 31, 2022
No practice/game Monday, May 30 or Monday, July 4
Practice & Game times TBD. Schedules will be released as we get closer to the season.
1-2 practices / week and 1-2 games / week
Program Cost: $200
Location - Emerald Fields at 900 Pamela Lane, Steamboat Springs, CO
Fees include a uniform shirt and hat. Players will need their own pants, belt, socks, shoes, and baseball mitt. Coaches will have balls, bats and batting helmets.
Divisions:
Minors
Minors begins to introduce players ages 9 to 11 to a more competitive level of play where scores and standings are kept. At this level, players will be introduced to pitching. Players will begin to learn more advance skills and begin to learn true position play and skills needed to function as a team. They will play on a standard youth baseball field, 60'’. Players will pitch from a distance of 42'. Each game will have an umpire. Practice is based upon the coaches but typically is not more than two days per week. Games will be twice a week, End of the season tournament may be held.
Majors
Majors is for players ages 10 to 12 and is a competitive level of play where scores and standings are kept. Majors 70 allows the players to experience “real baseball” at a younger age. Players will pitch from a distance of 50'. Players will play on a 70'’ diamond, leadoff, steal, run on dropped 3rd strike and other rules, full baseball rules. Practice depends on the coach but is typically two days a week or more. Games are twice a week, End of the season tournament may be held.
Player Evaluation
A player evaluation event is held following registration and prior to teams being formed. All players 7 and older wanting to play in Rookie, Minors or Majors, and 13-14, sign up for a short time-slot (sign-ups will open 2 weeks prior) during the announced evaluation days where they will take part in a short evaluation of throwing, catching, and hitting. Registered coaches are present and use the evaluations as a basis to form competitive and balanced teams. The top ~50 players will be drafted to form the 4 Majors teams. The remaining players in this age group will be drafted to form the Minor teams. All 9 year olds are required to play in Minors.
Player evaluation will include:
- 5 fly balls and throw to 2nd base
- 5 ground balls and throw to 1st base
- 5 hits off a pitching machine, on the 5th hit, run the bases to 3rd

- Shorts/pants - purchase individually, white or grey depending on coach/team color
- Belt & socks - purchase individually, can match the team uniform color

- Helmet - recommended to purchase own, but team will have some available
- Bat - recommended to purchase own, but team will have some available
